![]() ![]() So, it was a lot easier than my post-Covid trips to Costa Rica and Scotland. I had my vaccination records with me, but the only time I was asked for them was upon checking in to board the ship (but, we were told that any Italian or Spanish port could randomly ask for them and to be ready). So – no Covid tests were required for any part of my trip. But, just as I was booking the cruise, the negative Covid test requirement for re-entry into the US was dropped – YAY! And, then, the cruise line dropped their requirement for a negative Covid test prior to boarding the ship as of August 1 st. International travel has been tricky of late with all the post-Covid restrictions. ![]() I technically visited five different countries, since I visited Vatican City and Monaco – the two smallest countries in the world as part of my time in Italy and France. It was a trip I always wanted to do and when I saw a friend posting photos on Facebook of many of the places still on my bucket list, I checked it out….and decided to just do it!!! The trip began with two days in Rome, Italy and included a Mediterranean Cruise – 7 ports in 7 days covering Italy, France, and Spain. NIAGARA FALLS POLICE BLOTTER VENTURE FORTHE SERIESThis is the first of a series of articles I will be writing to share stories and photos from a wonderful adventure I experienced as I cruised around the Mediterranean Sea in August. The 135 steps start there behind the fountain and go up to the first landing, then arch around to a second and third landing before reaching the church at the top of the steps. The machine also frees up hands to do something else.” “This provides a quality CPR on every response. “Our department is getting older and there are not too many younger volunteers coming in,” Reed said. That amount of time can be tiring for volunteers who are trying to do about 100 compressions a minute. They do 30 compressions, and then two breaths of oxygen are added with a BGM – Bag, Valve, Mask ventilation device.įirefighters and EMS personnel very seldom do mouth-to-mouth resuscitation these days, said Harris Reed, Murray fire chief.īut they have physically been doing the CPR compressions, sometimes for 20 minutes to an hour, when an ambulance crew can take over. The chest compression devices are produced by Defibtech. The fire district last week put two Lifeline ARMs into service. Bruno’s Foster Mother”īruno, as the bear was named, thrived and lived for many years. Underwood took this picture of Ursula and Bruno and me with my consent and I am glad to have him use it in his book. It appeared in the 1921 book Wild Brother: Strangest of True Stories from the North Woods by William Lyman Underwood which describes how the wife of a logging camp cook in Northern Maine nursed an orphaned newborn bear cub along with her own daughter in the early 1900’s. This photograph is from the Library of Congress collection. The concept of “inter-species nursing” has indeed been documented. Adams, who had recently lost a babe, took it and nursed it, until it got to be quite a bear, and rather harsh in its manners.” “On searching the log, we found a cub, which we took home with us. The bear presented her head at the hole, and I killed her with the ax. The bear seized the dog, and my brother reached in and pulled the dog out. We then removed the sticks and put in the dog. Soon, however, she passed one of the holes and we knew it was a bear. “After filling the hollow with sticks, we cut several holes in the log, to ascertain the character of the animal. My brother went after an ax and gun, while I watched the hole. On looking into the hollow, we saw two eyes, but could not tell what animal it was within. “When we went to the Five Corners to fetch our kettle, while the snow crust was hard on our return, our dog barked earnestly at a large hollow tree that had fallen down. It is included in the Arad Thomas book Pioneer History of Orleans County which was published in 1871. The following incident occurred shortly thereafter. In 1811, he bought land “lying one mile west of where Albion now stands” from the Holland Land Company. Lansing Bailey was one of Orleans County’s early settlers. ![]() But perhaps we should not condemn quite so quickly. This headline caused a minor media sensation recently and elicited reactions of incredulity and derision.
